Our work
Strengthening community food security through partnerships, education, and sustainable food distribution.
What we do
Geelong Foodshare is a community-led organisation strengthening food security across the Greater Geelong region. We work across the food system to provide immediate access to nutritious food while building the skills, knowledge and connections that support long-term food security.
Through our two Social Supermarkets, a network of more than 80 frontline agencies, and our Cook.Connect.Share. and Grow.Connect.Share. programs, we help people access food, learn to cook and grow food, and build confidence around healthy eating.
Powered by more than 220 volunteers, we support over 20,000 people each week while working towards a healthier, more connected and food-secure region.
Current initiatives
Here’s how we’re strengthening food security in our community right now.

Social Supermarkets & Food vouchers
Our Social Supermarkets provide dignified access to nutritious food, while our Food Voucher Program enables local agencies to give people greater choice and flexibility when accessing support.

Cooking programs
Our Cook.Connect.Share. program brings community groups together to build confidence in the kitchen, connect with others and develop practical food skills that support long-term food security.
We invite community organisations and agencies to bring a group of participants and take part in the program together.

Community garden
In partnership with Barwon Water, we’re transforming a disused carpark into a thriving community garden and learning space.
Through Grow.Connect.Share., community groups build practical skills in food growing, water-wise gardening and seasonal production, while connecting with others and developing a deeper understanding of where our food comes from.

Food Rescue & Sourcing
Partnering with Barwon Health to turn surplus hospital meals into nutritious community food.
We are also expanding deliveries to Golden Plains Shire, addressing one of Victoria’s highest food insecurity rates.

Regional Food Network Strengthening
We work with Regional Food Security Alliance (RFSA) hubs to strengthen food distribution across Victoria, sharing resources and moving surplus food to communities where it’s needed most.
By working together, we can reduce food waste, respond to changing community needs and build a stronger, more connected regional food system.

Cultural Inclusion & Access
We’re making our Social Supermarkets more inclusive and accessible through multilingual audio-visual tools, helping people understand how our supermarkets work and shop confidently in their preferred language.
By reducing language barriers, we’re creating a more welcoming experience where everyone can access nutritious food with greater independence, dignity and choice.
