By Andrew Schauble, CEO of Geelong Foodshare
You may have known us as Geelong Food Relief. For over 30 years, that name reflected our work. Today, as Geelong Foodshare, we have embraced a new identity that better represents our vision: not just feeding people, but feeding social change.
In the past year, food insecurity across our region has surged, driven by rising living costs, housing pressures, and stagnant wages. Demand for support is at record levels, and Geelong Foodshare has responded—delivering the equivalent of 2.5 million meals, a 44% increase in the past two years.
We remain the backbone of food security in the G21 region, collecting and distributing nutritious food to 70+ frontline agencies and through our Social Supermarkets. Yet our role extends beyond logistics. Through strong partnerships—with Barwon Health, Geelong Botanic Gardens, Cultura, Wathaurong, Geelong Libraries, and others—we are embedding education, dignity, and cultural connection into food security.
As one of four Victorian Coordination Grant recipients, we are also reaching high-need areas like Colac and Golden Plains. This is systemic change in action: building networks, improving efficiencies, and fostering long-term resilience.
Geelong Foodshare is more than a name. It is a commitment to equity, dignity, and a healthier future for all.
