We are the core of food security in Geelong. We collect, share and provide reliable, nutritious and culturally appropriate food to a network of over 70 frontline agencies to help them feed those in need. You may have known us as Geelong Food Relief Centre Inc. That’s the name we held for thirty-five years. Our new name reflects the fact we are much more than a single food centre and have shifted from providing food relief to enabling healthy, reliable food security.
We are a deductible gift recipient (DGR1) registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and are governed by a Committee of Management. Our work spans the regional Victorian area of the City of Greater of Geelong and surrounds. Geelong is the fastest growing region in the state and second fastest in Australia. Our population is forecast to increase by 125,000 people by 2041.
In developing this new Strategic Plan, we took quality time to reflect on our heritage, core work, purpose, achievements, challenges, ecosystem, differentiation and most importantly the value we provide. We have thoughtfully considered our future and opportunities.
Our strategy focusses on three main outcomes: Our community has reliable, healthy, and culturally appropriate food security, building and maintaining high value networks and partnerships to deliver our mission, and ensuring we are future fit for impact and challenges.
To deliver on our strategy we will have to be brave, focussed, collaborative and accountable.
We acknowledge everyone in the Geelong Foodshare community; our extraordinary volunteers without whom we would not exist, our exceptional core team who would give anything to have more hours in the day, our generous suppliers who keep the food coming, the many front-line agencies who service our community in very challenging circumstances, our donors and sponsors who share our vision and back us, our governments who listen and respond positively where they can,
and our committee of management who ensure accountability, oversight and governance. We also thank you – for taking
interest in our strategy and hopefully telling others about what we do and why.
We are excited about the next chapter in this journey.
